What do Publishers want?

I was very fortunate to attend a seminar put on by the Ontario Book Publishers Organization and the Festival of Literary Diversity in partnership with the Greater Sudbury Public Library and Wordstock Sudbury.

A panel of three Canadian publishers: Heather Campbell of Sudbury’s Latitude 46, Christie Harkin of Clockwise Press, and Jennifer Knoch of ECW Press spoke about what publishers are looking for, how to submit a manuscript, and the inner workings of the publishing process.

The event was very well attended and the area was very quickly over flowing. It was a glimpse of just how many authors Sudbury can boast. Only a handful of members of the Sudbury Writers Guild were represented and some published authors that I am friends with were also not in attendance.

These events are extremely important to an author one due to the information that is being exchanged, but it is also a chance to mean and speak to other authors of different skill sets and experience.
