Set in Virginia in 1968, a black man has been charged with the murder of his elderly employers. Jack Lee, a white lawyer, takes on a case knowing deep down the man is being railroaded straight to the electric chair. Desiree Dubose, a black civil rights lawyer, knows the tactics the rich and powerful will use to hurt the civil rights movement, even if it means sentencing an innocent man to death.
Similar to “To Kill a Mockingbird,” this story is a politically heavily charged story of right and wrong. The courtroom scenes are mesmerizing, and you’ll never see the ending coming. There’s nothing Baldacci can’t write!
