Connelly’s latest character is Detective Stilwell, who has been sent to work out of Catalina Island as punishment for being too good of a cop. The Island has little real crime. It’s a playground for the filthy rich. Stilwell is busy with the slaughter of a protective animal when he is tipped off of a female body tied to an anchor in the main harbour.

Although no longer part of the homicide division, Stilwell can’t just let other do the job that’s happen on his home turf. He quickly identifies the woman and finds ties to the private club for the rich and famous. He convinces his boss that his first-hand knowledge will be an asset to the investigation.

Now he just needs to avoid ending up dead.

If this is Bosch’s replacement, fans of the famous detective will not be sorry to meet Detective Stilwell. I look forward to more stories from the Master of Police Procedurals.
