This is a historical novel that follows Charlie Matters, a young boy trying to survive during the Second Would War in the ruins of London. He meets up with Molly Wakefield, who has returned to London from the country, where she had been sent when the war began. She is alone after finding her father has disappeared and her mother is in an asylum across the country.
The two must learn to rely on each other to overcome the hunger, danger, and terror of the Blitz. Baldacci has proven that he can write just about anything. It’s a story that will stay with me for a long time.
