The River We Remember by William Kent Krueger
Krueger takes us back to 1958 in the town of Jewel, Minnesota. The body of a rich, but despised landowner is found dead in the river, half eaten by catfish. Evidence points to a Noah Bluestone. A Native American WWII veteran who has brought back a Japanese wife. Sherrif Brody Dern must search for clues to determine if the man is guilty, all the while trying to stop the man from being lynched by a number of hate-filled townspeople.
This is a story of jealously, prejudice, secrets, and sacrifice. The author is a master storyteller and the reader will be swept away to a time when times were simpler, yet not much different from today, with the same hatreds and discriminations.
